Wayfinding signage

Enhancing Mobility Through Wayfinding Signage in Inner Timaru

Throughout our City wayfinding signage tailored to pedestrian and cyclist needs have been installed to assist those to navigate inner Timaru with ease and confidence.

Why did it happen?

This initiative aligned with the Council’s commitment to increasing mobility, reducing congestion and fostering a healthier and more sustainable urban environment.

We know from local and international case studies that people engage with urban centre offerings only once they are on foot, and that the more steps a pedestrian takes, the more they will interact with local retail, hospitality and service offerings, not to mention our civic spaces.

The new wayfinding signage provides clear and concise directions with timings provided to encourage people to travel further, and see more, whether they have arrived on foot or have alighted from a bike, a MyWay bus, a parked car, or even a cruise ship!

Thank you to Venture Timaru and to Te Runanga ō Arowhenua who have provided design inspiration for these signs, tapping into our local values and tikanga.
